Meet Hunter Wickersham

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hunter Wickersham.

Hunter Wicked is a designer, painter, and photographer living in downtown Tempe, AZ. I started painting when I was 15 and haven’t put down the brush since. I’ve ventured throughout traditional mediums, such as acrylic and oils, and even hyper-realistic colored pencil. More recently, I’ve been diving into digital artwork and experimenting as much as I can.

Please tell us about your art.
I love to paint faces. There is something about the human emotion that compels me to paint. Portraiture can convey a sense of reality within us all. The intention to depict the unique appearance of a particular person or their very soul into a canvas. I love the expressions of the eyes that I make that really captivate the viewer. I start with the eyes and really try to leave an impression on the audience. Mediums that I work in are colored pencil, oil, and digital painting.

Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
I think that artists have a unique position to communicate their views with the world. With social media being a huge part of our lives, art almost has a duty to be a part of the change in our society. I would love to do a piece on an event or issue that I care about. Art can influence people very easily in today’s society, so it is important to spread a good message.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
